What Matters

It's the last day of the world
And my only Judgement will be this:
Who lived in it,
And who's just been waiting to die?

During the night,
The stars fell from the sky
But you missed it
I could have kicked it-
You were too busy talking
To the mirror on the wall.
The stars are gone forever now,
But at least I saw them fall.

During the night,
My lover lost his life
But you only knew races
For the prettiest faces-
You refused the challenge
And chose the velvet glove.
My lover's gone forever now,
But at least I knew true love.

During the night,
The last fire died.
I'll bet you didn't know
That two flames are never the same-
You stood in line for a painless end,
Missing the journey,
Not wondering about the riverbend-
Just waiting for your turn.
The fire is gone forever now,
But at least I felt it burn.

The world is gone forever now,
But at least I knew it turned.
