Poetry
All poetry (c) Liz McKinney unless otherwise noted.
To all the ships at sea, and all the ports of call
To my family, and to all friends and strangers,
This is a message, and a prayer.
The message is that my travels taught me a great truth.
I already had what everyone is searching for, and few ever find:
The one person in the world who I was born to love forever...
A person like me, of the outer banks and the blue Atlantic mystery;
A person rich in simple treasures, self made, self taught;
A harbor where I am forever home.
No wind, no trouble, nor even a little death
Can knock down this house.
The prayer is that everyone in the world
Can know this kind of love,
And be healed by it.
If my prayer is heard,
There will be an erasing of all guilt,
And an end to all anger.
Please, god.
Amen. *
A Prayer for the 21st Century

Desiderata

Dear friend,
It is with trembling hands and a great deal of trust that I have put these here for you to see. In these poems are many thoughts and emotions, some of which I am not proud. If you were to read them all, you would see the depth of my stupidity, my sadness, and sometimes my soul. But it is the trail of my life as I have lived it, and just like the past, these words can be denied, hidden, and destroyed--but not changed. So I have turned my mind from its fears and revealed them all so that maybe, maybe...I don't know. I just feel it. Someone once said to me, "I tried writing a poem once, a long time ago...and I failed miserably. But you may have inspired me to try again." And I realized...I am willing to bare my soul in the humble hope that it may inspire others (if only to avoid my mistakes. :)
