Opinions
We have to be willing to have our own minds changed as much as we change others.
I've reached my opinions from my own life experience, which
may be different from someone else's.
And the glimpses I get into someone else's life experience
are valuable. We, as individuals, should test our opinions just like every
other survival skill. Let the truth shine through.
In everything I do, I try to ask myself what my true intent is.
In our culture we are trained too much to manipulate,
to distort, and to understand selectively in order to get what
we want. As I grow older, I am tyring to break these patterns
in myself. Which is why it's so important to correctly
percieve WHY I disagree with/dislike things,
and where my opinions came from. I'm in an awesome class
right now called Education in Outdoor Settings, which is
basically about understanding ecology, and also understanding
why people look at the world the way they do. In order to be
able to teach them more effectively.
My temperment and my love for finding and breaking out of
my mental ruts has made me well-suited for this class,
and I'm having a blast. The professor is a great example of
someone who never heard of Tom Brown or Grandfather,
but managed to arrive at much the same wisdom in a different
way. I like to have my worldview tested, because any
natural system where there is no competition, no struggle
for survival, will stagnate eventually. The point is to
never stop growing.
